car wont turn on
i have a 92 integra with a b16 out of a 99 si. yesterday my car just died on me while i was on the road. i could still pop it into gear as i was 'rolling down the street' and it would turn on but i didnt have any throttle response nor would it pick up speed. as i pulled into a parking lot, my car would not turn on at all. the starter would go but the engine wouldnt kick over. i towed it home. this morning, i tried to to turn it on again and the car did turn on, for about 5 seconds. that ruled out any electrical, ignition, and distribution problems. the tow driver recommended a fuel system problem. any advise from anybody? do you think it might be the fuel filter or fuel pump? can an integra b18b pump handle a b16 or what? please advise
Make sure the pump turns on for a few seconds when you turn the key to the on position (but don't crank it). If that checks out, replace the fuel filter (partially because replacing the fuel filter is never a bad idea). I'm still thinking it might be distributor related.
sounds like the fuel pump died if it starts for only a second or two and then dies... turn your key to the on postion but DONT start it, while doing this check to see if you hear your fuel pump priming. its right underneath your back seats so you will be able to hear the hum of it priming. if not then most likely your fuel pump is shot. also have your main relay tested, that could be bad too.
now that i think about it, i usually hear the fuel pump pumping but i havent since the incident. a couple of mechanics say it might be the timing belt but i dont think so. the belt looks good and it turns.
do u know how to remove the fuel pump? i removed the back seat and silver plate but got stuck there. i cant get the thing out. do u know how step by step?
