IM not saying that what Sivic is saying isnt true, but from what ive read from previous threads on here and the ocho. Only a computer from a dealership or somewhere similar can clear the ECU. It loggs every thing unusual and even has the time/dates when it happened.
So if you blew something, and are trying to get rid of the evidence you need another ECU or a HOnda-Tech to wipe it out. BUt even then they will notice somethings wrong because your cars (how ever old it is) and you have 0 loggs means it has been messed with.

yes. you need the hds tablet from a honda dealership if you are trying to erase stored dtc's.
but what i said up top will reset it. the codes are implanted though. so it depends on why you need it reset.

At work,we use a Snap On OBD2 scan tool when you don't want to wait for the hds tabet (it is really slow), and are only checking the pgmfi system(engine touble codes)

the snap-on scanner will erase the codes but that thing is high priced. when i worked at honda in from 2003 to 2006 we would disconnect both battery cables and hold the cables to gether this would reset all the capacitors in side the battery and basically the ecu would be back to like new with only factory parameters in it. as far as the cel for a harness check you pin locations in the harness connetor, if you're swapping to a different motor than was in it.
you don't cross them while they are connected to the battery dumb-***. Honda factory bulletin from the mid 90's have that in them and also Honda techline an American Honda helpline for technicians at Honda to ask for factory help has suggested this. no s*@t it will cause problems if you cross or hook up the battery wrong. read the post again only the cable ends touch not connected to the battery.

This will clear out the entire ECU just leaving all the stock parameters. In other words erase the entire history of what happened to the car? I'll give it a try tonight thanks

I don't know that I'd do that. Since Honda has gone to the CAN protocol and the ECU's program is now stored in flash memory and not ROM means it can be changed and/or erased. there is the potential with that procedure that you'll lose everything. Including the program that the car runs on.

Yeah def the immoblizer. But there has to be a way somehow with out taking it to the dealer and charging me for like 2-3 hours of labor and then for an excuse to change something.
What exactly are you trying to do?
What is the motor swap you say you're working on for your friend?
what would the dealership charge you 2-3 hours labor for?

He blew his motor on his 06 si coupe (engine has 57k) got another engine and now the ECU is coming on and its the wire harness not being read. The dealer is like will its one hour for the CEL usually and then a couple more hours for the problem if they find out what it is. The car does start but wont pass the inspection here in NY cause of the light.
