I was told that if I replace this I will also need to replace gaskets on exhaust pipes that I remove to get at oil pan. Does this sound accurate?

 

You don't have to, it's just that if you already have the exaust pipes off, it's a good time to replace the exaust gaskets since they can corrode/break down pretty easily. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think they were more than like $5 a piece so not too expensive either.
