Speedometer doesnt work, unless you hit trip meter reset

SO, my speedometer goes from 0 and then hovers around 40km/s when the car starts, but the cars not moving...
then I hit the trip meter reset button, and the [freak]in thing goes back to normal, zero.. what the hell is going on ?
i want to sell the car and a speedometer that doesnt work sucks lol

Did you try testing your wheel-speed sensor ? or maybe there's a short some where in the line. I would trace the line back and make sure it is not damaged in anyway !!
you're VSS is what he's referring to, Vehicle Speed Sensor, its the plug on top of your tranny. google image it or something.
