Any H22a1 (93-96) crank will work in a H22a. A USDM crank from a 97 H22a4 will also work.

Apart from the Type-S and EuroR, all the jdm longblocks imported have been/are the obd1/closed-deck/50mm engine.

Really?! The JDM black tops are all closed regardless of year? I've only seen blue and red top H motors (which were all open). It was easy to think the rest of the regulars of that era were the same. I can't find much in searching or the FAQ....except the part that just plain says "H22A = closed deck", but I always thought that was a small oversight.

Nah, the H22a's are not all closed, but all the longblocks imported to the US are 91-96. You won't find a single obd2/open-deck regular (non Type-S/EuroR) JDM H22 in the states.

Ah, so they do change open/closed by year then. It's just that all the imports are closed...wierd. LOL

Also some very early 1998 Preludes still had leftover '97 blocks.

last time i checked, the main journal dimension also dealt with the crankshaft.

jdm, closed deck, etc. do not matter...it's the crank's main journal dimension that control its compatibility.
