Default some new modifications!

well im doing a couple new mods and upgrades to the R in the next couple of weeks and thought id share them here

first of all i bought a mint set of headlights, a new oem bumper and lip (previous owner hit a raccoon and took out lip and damaged bumper) that i plan on doing a retro fit in, i am looking for some s2k projectors right now but i already have some oem acura ballasts and bulbs

i also picked up a replica header with test pipe (great deal) and plan on picking up a b20 block to do a p30 piston build with

anyone have any writeups on the hids or what else i might need, i have a dremel and oven and some basic tools with me here at school

I am a big DIY'er. However, I personally would send out the headlights and projectors to our Expo sponsors Custom Lightz. They are great guys who do excellent work. You already have all the pieces so you would only have to pay labor. I really think it would be worth your investment. I considered doing it myself before I met them at Expo and saw their work. There are little tips and tricks and the experience they have for the price can't be beat IMO.

well i have read a couple of writeups and i also have a good friend who retrfitted tsx projectors into his wrx, i wouldnt say i could do it as well as them, but i just can imagine paying someone to do something that i feel i could with the help of hidplanet and some friends.. its not like im in a hurry to get it done so i feel with some time and reading and tips from people who have done it i could come out with a great retro-fit with very minimal money involved

I have personally done an hid retrofit, and plan to pay customlightz to do it. After the headache and all the work trying to figure it out the first time...300 bucks for them to do it perfect is a deal. I would say mine came out 9 out of 10, a few flaws, theres will be flawless.

I did the TSX retrofit in my old LS. Teg's are a lot easier to do it in since we already have a projector setup. It really wasn't that hard. Just time consuming the first time you do it.

I just finished my S2K Retrofit, I have pictures of the process and everything.

I will do a write-up after Sept 16th so if you can wait till then. I will have a thorough one up for you.

BTW, I highly reccomend you just get some new bulbs Phillips 85122+ bulbs, makes it so much more worthwhile. Also Ballasts your using are good, but you could have gone a different route.

BTW mine came out perfect, alignment is spot on, cut-offs are perfect too.

For my first retrofit I was amazed, spent maybe 20 hours in total doing it, and most of that was spent cutting with the dremel. The re-enforced dremel cutting discs are a MUST.

I just got mine off e bay.

If you want to use S2K projectors be prepared to spend another $250 at least. Well worth it in my opinion.

I love driving at night now, farking love it.

Bulbs i found off a seller on e bay, same with ballasts, but HIDplanet sells them and if ur in the US id just go through them, at least they have a very good reputation.

If you are definitely going to tackle the job yourself, i would do some heavy research and find an excellent write up as your manual. Should you accidentally botch your headlights, you'll be out that cash having to find replacements.

I know both Rich and Bjorn at customlightz personally, so my opinion of their work is biased; however i will never attempt to do this myself when i know their expertise will get it done perfectly.

OP...i have had both a TSX and S2K retrofit done by them, both in integra headlights. Zero problems, fantastic guys, and pioneers in the retrofitting business.

Good luck with your project though

That price would be an excellent price too. There is also a difference in S2K projectors over the years. Not sure when the change was made, but that info you should be able to find on HIDplanet.

yep it seems the 04+ are not quite as good as the older ones, and ive been doing research research and more research

i would love to be able to afford to pay someone to do it for me, but i guess im just the mentality that if its something that can be done at home then i would like to try

it seems going rate for s2k projectors is 300++
and rate for tsx projectors is 150+

that is accurate. $250 for a set of S2K projectors would be a great price if you can find them.

I talked with customlightz for a good hour at E6. Whenever I step-up to HID's I'm letting them handle everything.

hopefully got a deal on a jdm b18c(r) block, he wants 800 plus my block, does that seem like a decent deal, compression was great on his motor (250 across)
