Default h22 in a del sol, not passing emissions...

so my del sol is finally running with a jdm h22!! yay!! only problem though is that it isnt passing emissions... it idles a little funny (sometimes at like 2k rpm, other times it dies.) it seems to be running pretty rich. it also gets very hot (not overheating, it just emits a ton of heat after its been running for a bit.) im sure that the fact that it is a jdm engine is part of the issue, but i dont really know where to start trying to fix the problem... i have one person telling me im missing the egr control solenoid, and that that would fix the problems (i have the egr itself, but not that solenoid.) another person is telling me that i should just look into getting the hondata s300 (dont really have the money for that right now though.) anyone have any suggestions???
