Steering column bent, Is it possible to bend it back?
My Civic was stolen and recovered, I repaired the ignition switch but now it seems the steering column is bent. The steering wheel is straight but the column itself appears to be shifted about 20 degrees to the right so that the ignition almost faces the floor. Does anyone know how to bend this back? I rather not replace the steering column.
thanks
thanks
anything is possible, but your gonna have to just get another one. if yours isnt adjustable, then now is a great time to go to the salvage yard and pull one off that is.
when I got my civic from a salvage yard, it too had that problem, apparently the thieves bent the hell out of it to pop the column lock.

thanks for the input.
My last resort is to replace the steering column. I'm trying to find where it is bent and try to bend it back. I hate to put any more money in this repair. If anyone else has any experience with this please post a reply.
Thanks again

When I got my car back, I found that it wasn't the column that was bent, it was the bracket that allows it to bolt to the dash. The blow from the hammer on the ignition was enough to make it look like the wheel was shifted to the left an inch, possibly 2.
I pulled the whole column out and just did my best to square that "box" back up. A bench vise, some hammers and basic measuring tools is all you should need to do the same.
I will say, the plastic column surround also mounts to the "box", and even though had the wheel itself was dead on, the column surround was still slightly crooked despite my best efforts. I'd test fit the surround before you put the column back in so you can "adjust" those mounting tabs and get it right, cuz it's a lot tougher to do on your back under the dash.

This bracket that you speak of, can you be specific as to the location or better yet can you link me a picture as I want to get this fixed as soon as possible.
thanks for your help
