Engine builders, machinists, and fabricators...What do you think of this bore gauge?

1.4"-2.5" range
.0001" grad.
Are there any others you would recommend? I only need it to measure rod bores.
Thanks for any suggestions

I got one from cornwell, works just fine for me....I dont know the price on yours, but if it is cheap there is a reason for it
Thanks guys, Ill check the cornwell guy next time he comes to work...
Ive heard that mitutoyo and starrett are high quality instruments. I dont work with precision measurement tools to really have an opinion...
I have a bore guage from Mac tools that i am happy with... 2-6" range with .0001 graduations...Think I paid around $300 for that one...
I wish some professional engine builders or machinists would share their opinion...
Im going to order it next week if I can find anything else better...

How precise do you need to get? You have to take it to a shop to have it machined anyways right?... cornwell has their bore gauge in this months flyer on sale again, at least in my area... maybe call a couple of machine shops around you to see what they use...its a pretty quick question and if they arent total dicks they'll probaly tell you

From a machinists standpoint, I can tell you that Mitutoyo and Starrett are probably much better measuring devices than anything on the Cornwell truck.

I guess that is the real question...honestly I dont use mine all that often, so it works just fine for me, but If I was in the machining or fabricating business, not the wrenching business, I would probaly opt for a better one. For the occasional engine builder though I dont think you need top of the line IMO, as long as your not trying to Harbor Freight's finest you should be all right
Im looking for something that measures to the ten thousandth (.0001").
Ill primarily be using it for measuring rod bores...
Ive used T gauges in the past and can be pretty consistant, however I feel theres much less chance for error with a dedicated bore gauge...
When it comes to tools, I like to have quality that I know I can trust over and over for years to come...
I asked the Cornwell guy today about it, but he had no idea they even made one...Didnt see it in this or last months promo flyer, so maybe its a region thing...
Leaning towards the mitutoyo...
Thanks again guys!
