Well ever since I got the evo I haven't toyed with the R much. Contemplated selling her since the whole theft thing sort of killed it for me. But I couldn't part with the car. Too many good memories.
So now I'm sort of finishing up the build on the evo and thought the right thing to do is get this car out in the sun again for weekend drives. There is a few things I need to freshen up on the car, so I think I will be towing it to redzone in a few weeks to get everything checked out.
Below is a list of what I am doing, let me know if you have any suggestions on what else I should take a look at after having the car sitting for this long without moving/starting.
1. Drain gas tank
2. Check tires for flat spotting
3. Full cooling system flush and fix radiator fan (wont turn on)
4. Complete Leakdown and compression test
5. Valve adjustment
6. New spark plugs
7. After getting it freshened up I'll br throwing the car back on the dyno and refreshing the tune on it. (last at 180whp dynojet) I want to throw it on a load bearing dyno this time.
8. Get all old wiring from sound system and alarm removed
9. Check all fluids (power steering, clutch, brakes, etc.)
10. Rolling rear fenders
11. Get a quiet exhaust on the car
12. Get some cams to make use of the header I have
13. Some intake porting work
14. Baffled oil pan (mugen if they still make it)
15. Install mugen sway bars that have been sitting in my room for ages
16. Maybe swap out the omni coilovers for some good stuff and corner balance it
It's good to be back. And I plan on HPDEing the car again since wadding up the evo doesn't sound so hot ROFL.

At the Honda dealership they use manual pump syphons that you stick down into the tank thru the filling nozzle.

Is the drain plug not a good option?
OP- Oil would be the first thing I change before startup. While you are at it go ahead and change the trans fluid. Quick and relatively easy to change. I would change the fuel filter as well.

I would think. Me and a buddy did that and then droped the tank for further clean out. His car also swam in the canal so it was neccesary.

I tried to syphon the gas out, but there seems to be a one-way valve in there that won't allow it.
I thought there was a drain plug, but I haven't climbed underneath to look for it. Is it easy to get to?

Well in my case i have 18 month old gas in there so its probably rancid. I actually want to put a whole new gas tank in there because it was dented from the bottom during the theft.
Yep of course will be changing oil too. Fuel filter is also a good idea thanks.

You will see a 17mm head bolt. that is your drain bolt. be careful when removing it as the metal around it on the gas tank is merely sheet metal and thin.
Steps:
1-jack up car
2-jackstand car
3-place drain pan under tank
4-remove drain bolt
5-remove gas cap to let the air escape and flow quicker
6-replace gas cap to trap air
7-Put the bolt back in
8-remove drain pan and discard of fuel
9-repeat steps 3-8 until no more fuel comes out
10-remove drain bolt
11-remove gas cap to let the air escape and flow quicker
12-remove jack stands
13-lower car so gas angles back to the drain hole

Brake fluid and coolant are on 2yr and 4yr intervals, so you might want to change those depending on when they were last replaced. Be sure to prime the lubrication system before the first start-up.
i just drained my tank thru the bolt on the bottom of the tank i jacked from the front passenger side so the gas was aiming at the hole....my car was sitting for 4 years with race fuel lol still smelt ok

Drive it 300 miles.
BTW, you didn't mention anything about the battery. I assume you will need to do something with it - charge it, reconnect it, replace it, etc.
