can you put a f22 vtec head on a h23 block?
i hav a h23 in a 94 prelude im leaning towards a unseating valve problem....tested ignition and fuel and thats fine so im guessing valve intake valve cause it backfiring from the intake....can i put a f22 head on the block?
Basically F-series are old-school iron sleeves pressed in the block. H's at first were FRM, then switched to open deck iron sleeves floating in the water jacket.
In shorter terms, yes you 'should' be able to swap heads but why?

Wat? There's no iron sleeved H blocks dude. If you don't know then don't post please....he's not even asking about blocks in the first place.
I agree with 'why?' though....doesn't sound like a good idea.

So the open-deck H22's sleeves are made of what? The closed-deck older H22's had FRM cylinders just like the old B21A1 but when they went to open deck I'm fairly certain those had iron sleeves.
Anyways, my point was that H and F parts are extremely interchangeable - the only 'big' differences were the cylinders as the Accord F-series had pressed-in iron liners the whole time and H first had FRM, then had floating iron sleeves (if they were made from some different metal please correct me).

All H-series engines use FRM liners.
You can't swap F and H series heads without making other modifications. Go through the Hybrid engine section of the faq's. The only direct-swap F/H combination is the F20b, but it comes with a H22 head from the factory.
OP: if you have fuel and spark but it won't start, check your cam timing.

Can you get a picture of the newer open-deck H engines for me? I don't think FRM sleeves can be done with an open deck design as they wouldn't have the block as support...
*edit* I'm looking to learn, not trying to say that you guys are wrong - I have only seen older closed-deck H22's but all the info online says that the newer ones were open deck.

All H-series blocks are FRM, we promise
Are you thinking FRM is weaker than iron? The new ones are open deck but still FRM.

Yea, they are all open-deck. It's common knowledge that all H-series use FRM, so search and I'm sure you'll find all the pics you need to prove to yourself.

That kinda looks like there's an iron sleeve, but I guess not eh?
I'd just be surprised that FRM could be used in an open deck design since the walls would be so much thinner than on a closed deck block.
how about this B18? I see the same thing with it:

also here is a pic of the 4th gens H22A1 which every site I go to says is closed deck from the factory:

kalm_traveler, all those H blocks pictured appear to have been resleeved with Iron sleeves. If you look closer, you will see that they have apparently installed fresh aftermarket pistons. Doing that normally requires changing out the FRM to Iron sleeves, depending on the pistons used. No H series ever had factory iron sleeves. They were always FRM through their entire production. Take it from the shared knowledge of many members on this forum that have deep knowledge of even the the most obscure H series blocks.
