crank position sensor and limp mode
need some help honda tech. my buddy has a 99 honda prelude non type sh about 2 weeks ago his check engine light came on so we scaned it and it said it was the crank position sensor. so then we got a new one threw it in and still same problem. but now it goes into limp mode and wont rev past 3k. any idea what might cause this i was thinking timing might be off causeing it to throw crank position sensor. and not to mention it has a very low idle. idles at about 200 rpms. any one have a idea what t he problem might be thanks.
not sure i just got the crank positioning sensor changed maybe i will look into about the other sensor. is it posiable if the timing was off tho it would throw that code and throw it into limp mode
is it the crank sensor in the distributor or the crank sensor on the oil pump?
if the timing was off, it would throw a check light for the CYP (in the distributor)

so that means you replaced the distributor correct?
verify the cam timing is correct. If the exhaust cam is off by any degree, you will get a CYP check engine light (distributor) as TDC is no longer in sync with the crank sensor on the oil pump (CKP)

yea thats all correct were starting to think the ecu is bad were gona try a different ecu see if its any better. any idea what ecu to use to go to obd1 and have it reprogrammed i thought u could get a p28 and get it chipped for a h22 is that possiable even if it was the car its going in is a auto so i have no idea what to use about that any suggestions.
you cant convert an OBD2 auto to OBD1 unless you find some way to rig the TCM to it. If the ecu is bad, he is going to need another OBD2 prelude ecu. P5M is the ecu code IIRC. I forget, i havent seen one in so long.
Hi there my 4th gen honda prelude distributor keeps displaying a crank angle sensor fault. After a few weeks the car breaks down and needs a new distributor. Between a week and a month the same happens again. Its costing a fortune in distributors.
The crank angle sensor is in the distributor if im right so i dont understand the problem. Although it is not a genuine honda part.
Can u help ?

if you have dohc in the car it will throw the CPS code if your timing belt jumps a tooth on even one of the pulleys. timing belt is much cheaper than the other parts on your car and a visual inspection can tell you if your off a few teeth
