4th Gen H23A1 balancer belt install ?
Since I broke my timing belt and mangled my valves, I've had quite a bit of work to do on my car. It's been slow going, as I've really never done much intrusive maintenance on my car before. Basically, furtherst apart i got my car, was to change the oil. It's going well though, I've got the head and intake manifold back on, and the timing belt is back on with everything at TDC.
The problem is the damn Balancer belt, and the front and rear shafts. I've got a book for it, a Chilton. I don't think a day has gone by where I haven't cursed and commented about how much of a piece of crap it is. The book has some really vague instructions about using a pin or bolt to secure the rear balancer shaft at TDC via placing the pin through a hole, where a maintanence bolt should be. The instructions aren't all that complicated, but there's nothing that i can find that goes the way the book states.
The front balancer shaft pulley is supposed to be aligned with the mark on the oil pump housing. Sadly, there looks to be two marks. One parrellel to the floor, the other perpendicular. The book shows a picture of aligning the pulley with the one parallel to the floor, towards the front of the engine. I'm not too keen on which way to go with it. Since the book is such a PoS, I'm thinking the more logical choice would be the one on the top.
I'm not even sure how important the timing is on this balancer belt, but I love my car and don't want to take a short cut.
So, if i could get some help, that'd be great.

Yep, Haynes/Chiltons are pieces of crap. FYI get a Helms manual (helminc.com) it is the factory service manual with detailed diagrams, easy instructions, tq specs, etc etc.
Just leave your balance shaft belt off. Worst case scenario the car will vibrate slightly at higher rpms. You can't take them out without a removal kit.
