Me and my buddy are doing a b16a swap on a crx. So we got everything in there right but we are having issues with the timing belt. We tried the belt that came with the head kit and also another one from autozone but both are too loose. When we screw in the tensioner, it will tighten the belt a little but not enough. When we rotate the crankshaft one full revolution the belt will jump about 10 grooves. We just put the belt on and then tighten the bolt on the tensioner (clockwise).

Any ideas?

Would getting a new tensioner or a OEM honda timing belt be any help?

 

you have to spin it two full rotations to check proper alignment. not will only be half way

 

Well actually I remember the time we put the first timing belt we spun it a few times and checked it often. And it would tension a little bit then loosen up again. And what you mean 'not will only be half way'?

 

turn the crank two full rotations from tdc-tdc-tdc that will tell you if alignment is off. it will loosens and tighten thats just how tentioners work. i mean to say "if not (meaning 1 rotation) it will only be half way

 

Well the first time we rotated it awhile and kept checking and it was too loose and it had jumped several times. I mean while we are rotating the crank the belt keeps hopping while I am... I can try again tomorrow.

 

tighten it more. it is a pain in the *** bt all you have to do is keep trying

 

are you turning the crank counter clockwise?

 

Yes we are turning the crank counter clock wise while constantly checking the tension and the tdc marks. We tightened the tensioner pretty damn tight, we don't want to over tighten it or strip it on accident.

 

you are using a b16 timing belt correct? del sol vtec, civic si..?
and you changed the water pump with a vtec water pump right?
b18 belts are slightly longer..

 

Yeah we ordered the belt for a del sol (i think a 94 vtec one, couldn't overhear too good). I know we told the guy we need a del sol b16a timing belt though. Other then that the engine has been rebuilt so I am pretty sure the water pump was displaced with a vtec counterpart... but I will make sure.

Yeah water pump was replaced with vtec one for sure.
