passing smog with misfiring???
so yea a few weeks ago
i went to smog my car
i pass the emission way below state avg...
but the smog guy says i need a pvc pipe from my intake to my head
and that my car is misfiring
so a few days ago i was now thinking that "HEY if my car was misfiring... how the heck did i score belowstate avg on my emission part???"
so i took my lude to my guy that build my head the next day
and he said my timing was perfect and theres no way u can change the
timing on my 99 prelude SH
so now my thinking this smog guy is just trying to cheat me for more money
now i dont knoe.... can u still pass smog and have a misfiring engine???

if your car has a miss. . . unburnt fuel will be in the exhaust. . . thus failing emissions test. . . as far as a pcv valve i don't get how that could really effect emmisions. Yea it helps the rings seat better but it wouldn't be the difference between pass/fail.
Yeah, if your car is missfiring that is why you failed.
A PCV valve and tube from the valve cover to the intake manifold is very cheap, easy, and you need it either way, so I would get that fixed.
Do you have any check engine lights or physical stumbling or bogging while you drive that you can feel? He is right you can't do much about the timing on your car ('96+), but if everything else is good you should pass just fine.
Take it to another place to smog it or you can also get some stuff called RXP from the auto parts store (among other things) and it will help you pass. I would still want to get my car running right though....

i just got my head rebuild from rings to springs ect... becuz of a compression leak
so now
no engine light
no signs of misfiring
my guy check the timing
and its perfect
i think this smog guys trying to cheap me off
for more money
anyway to get him back now???

^^ you probably won't get your money back but alot of places offer Re-test if you fail...maybe he can help you there?
But no PCV hose is a visual fail so you probably failed there.
Did you get a smog report sheet?
