Default What are your thoughts on Transmission coolers?

I've never heard of these but have been reading about them over on V6accord.com It is basically a radiator hooked to your auto tranny to disapate heat. Neccessary?

I don't race or go WOT from light to light but i do drive 80 MPH or so on the highway and they claim tranny heat is the number one cause of failure.

Comments?

if you drive in a lot of stop and go traffic or work the tranny hard or just would like the tranny to last longer then add a cooler

I have a Hayden 401 on my car. It doesnt help performance much, but it is a preventative measure for longer tranny life. Yes, heat is the number one cause of auto tranny failure.

that **** will void your warrenty. Keep it stock untill your warrenty expires. If the tranny is going to blow up, it will blow up before 15,000 miles.

really humm. i don't see how it could kill the tranny but i know how dealers and their warrenties go. Maybe i should wait till my 36K is up. Thats when the warrenty runs out right? or does powertrain go longer?

Anyhow are you a honda tech?

36K unless you have extended.

I work as a service advisor at a honda dealer.

Youll be fine. Just dont do ANY aftermarket stuff while you are in warrenty, just in case.

Brian, if you can resist VTEC, then I think you can resist modifications. I however, cannot.

One other reason i bought an accord is so I won't mod it. I spent way to much money and headache modding my last car. Not to start a war here but most all mods i see for the accord are in poor taste and IMO engine upgrades are a joke. The I4 is horridly slow and the V6 being an auto is not much better. Its a family car not a dragster. 1/4 discussions make me laugh. So no temptation to mod here, the tranny cooler is just a preventative maintance item for me.
