Default check engine o2 sensor

from time to time my check engine light comes on then goes off. Checked the code and its for the o2 sensor upstream. Whats the location of this? I see 2 on the cat. Is it one of those 2? Do I need a special tool to remove it or just a deep socket? Got 70k on my ride do I need to replace or clean it?

You will need an O2 sensor socket. Have you modified the cat? or the internals of the engine? What code are you throwing? P0420?

Thanks for the info. Never changed o2 before. No mods down there yet at all. Everything stock except for a stiffy. Engine light is off at the moment. I Lost the paper that I wrote the code on last time I stopped at the auto shop . It said o2 upstream was bad.

It's the primary o2 sensor, the one before the cat. You will need a 22mm o2 socket to remove it

P0166 and P0167.

They are easy to install. They run about $200.

I've got a 1166/1167 following a clutch install.

Others have suggested a wire got pulled out from the sensor. I've looked, and pushed wires in, everything looks ok, but still get the codes.

Is replacing the O2 sensor a "guaranteed" fix? Is is possible a wire was pulled between the O2 connector and the ECU? I think that would be almost impossible to "push back in".

Have you cleared the code to see if it comes back or will it not clear at all?

Check those wires before you spend hundreds on a new sensor.
