Default Roll Cage/Interior Pics....

What's up guys, over the winter I'll be gutting my car and working on it over the next year. And a 8 or 10 point cage will be going in over the winter, probably some time after New years, but my question is if I'm not planning on racing in any series in the near future, but I might in a few years which cage is "legal" under most sanctioning bodies?

I also wanted to get pictures from you guys to see how you did your set up and whether you liked it or not. And if you don't like your current set up what would you to differently next time?

Also I'm seeing more and more people with cages running pillar to pillar floor bars, how effective are these, and aren't these illegal in more sanctioned races? I could see the chassis benefit from them, but just wanted to hear more about it from you guys...

Later,

your best bet, is to get rule books for ALL sanctioned clubs and or series you might run in the near future, find a reputable cage builder and build it around all of them,so that you are legal in which ever series or club.

Do a search, and you will find many threads on the do's and don'ts of race cage design.

The problem is the HT search engine is the worst in the world, you could type in roll cage and get 0 hits, or cage and still get 0 hits... I hate the damn thing, and after so many years of trying to use it I see why a lot of Noobs ask their stupid questions even though we highlighted the search button red over a year ago!

Post them if you have time, if not don't worry about it... I know the generally accepted cage pattern for the crx, but I've seen a bunch of people trying different things in the past year, and wanted to see what they have to say about their new design and if they recommend it?

Thanks,

I don't know, I've never had a problem with the H-T search. Just now, I did an archive search for "roll cage" and got 980 hits.

Why should someone waste time and post something when it's readily available in the archives. Don't be lazy and expect people to do all the work for you.

Yep, plenty of ways to search for roll cage pics. You can also look in the "race car for sale" thread as there will be tons of pics for cage ideas.

As a gimme, here's one and a link to more build pics:

Only if you don't know how to use it.

Lesson 1: Select "Archived content"

That being said, a lot of great posts that used to be here have mysteriously disappeared with the ownership change.

In all seriousness, I think the JEGs cage tubing may not be legal. ERW something or other, diameter, wall thickness, SOMETHING. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If your not racing door to door right now or in the upcoming season, why get a cage now? Wait until your going to race competively and then build a cage.

You are correct. Most "drag race" shops sell ERW tubing, and neither NASA nor SCCA allow ERW. NASA grandfathered in cages built before 4/03, but all new cages have to be DOM.

"DOM is a process for making and finishing the tubing, not for what material the tubing is. ERW is not something you would want to use as it's not nearly as strong, mild steel or chromoly." A good place to find DOM is at a circle track shop.

I got this info from moridin2004 in this thread.

https://honda-tech.com/zero...52098

From NASA CCR:
http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf
15.6.18 Roll Cage Tubing Sizes
For the purposes of determining roll bar tubing sizes, vehicle weight is as raced, but
without fuel and driver. Note: There is an allowance of minus 0.010 inches on all tubing
thicknesses. Minimum tubing size for the roll cage is:
Up to 1500 lbs.
1.375” x 0.095” Chrome-moly / Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1501 - 2200 2500 lbs.
1.500” x 0.095” Chrome-moly / Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1.500” x 0.120” ERW* (No issuance of log books for cars with ERW cages 04/30/03)
*Note- Specifications listed for reference for inspection of grandfathered vehicles.
2201 2501 - 3000 lbs.
1.500” x 0.120” Chrome-moly / Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1.750” x 0.095” Chrome-moly / Seamless mild steel (DOM)
1.750” x 0.120” ERW* (No issuance of log books for cars with ERW cages 04/30/03)
*Note- Specifications listed for reference for inspection of grandfathered vehicles.
3001 - 4000 lbs.
1.750” x .120” Chrome-moly / Seamless mild steel (DOM)
No ERW allowed.

Yep, I was using it wrong this whole time... That definitely helps, thanks!

Wow, no wonder I never had anything pop up!!!
