Default help with turbo on b16a

i want to turbo my b16a, i plan to build up the motor and lower compression down to 8.5:1, and run 15 psi of boost on the street and 18 on the track. i was wondering if anyone has done a custom turbo setup on a 89 civic or crx with a b16a1, i know there is limited room in the front for a manifold and turbo. f-max makes a kit for this setup, but they run 2 extra injectors on the interooler piping to give more feul and i dont like that setup. looking for sugestions on size turbo, im thinking a t3/t4, and who makes a manifold and downpipe to fit this setup without having clearance trouble with the crossmember. thanks

depending on what mounts you have you will have to modify your crossmember. as for turbo sizing, if your going custom, you can find t3's fairly easily at yards for fairly cheap, however most of the t3 trims that came on stock cars like thunderbirds and such are small so they run out of gas on top end. If you have the cash a T3/T4 would be the ideal size for that b16a. For manifolds you can get any b series manifold, this will not really affect the trouble with the crossmember, this will all depend on what mounts you get. You generally want a tubular stainless manifold, theres a guy in the forced induction forum who sells em for 300 bucks, do a search and im sure you could find him. As for tunning i would look up the afc hack in the forced induction forum, once again do a search for that. the key thing is tuning, if you dont know too much about tuning i would save up and get a kit, if you have good knowledge of what your doing you could put together a junkyard kit for pretty damn cheap, i put mines together for under 500 bucks, but without the correct tunning your gona blow the motor pretty damn quick.

thanks, im going to buy a new t3/t4 i just wanted to make sure that wouldnt be to big. so your saying that i can use my stock manifold and modify it to fit the turbo or should i buy a manifold from drag for a 99 civic si? i have the hasport mounts. i plan to use 440 injectors would those be big enough for 18 psi or should i get 550?

it will do perfectly

"so your saying that i can use my stock manifold and modify it to fit the turbo or should i buy a manifold from drag for a 99 civic si?"

ummmm, no dude, you cant use a stock manifold for a turbo, i mean you could start a forest fire with toothpicks but ....... u get my drift. you need a "turbo" manifold.

"i have the hasport mounts. i plan to use 440 injectors would those be big enough for 18 psi or should i get 550?"
you will most likely have to modify your crossmember to clear your downpipe. hmmm, not to knock you dude but if i were you id read up on turbos a little bit more before you do this. You sound like your gona do your own kit but it doesnt seem like you get forced induction just yet, get the book "maximum boost" by corky bell. its a really good book and itll teach you a lot. turboing is not something you wana take lightly, you can blow a lot of money really quick and get really cool views at the inside of your motor if you do not understand it fully. Tuning is gona be the key, unless you get a kit thats made for your car, your gona have to get a piggy back to run your fuel and timing, and they all require some tunning. if you got anymore questions just IM me.

well ive read that you can modify a stock manifold to acept a turbo, i know you can't just bolt a turbo up to a stock manifold. i just got done doing an install on a integra with the 1.8 non vtec using a t3/t4 turbo and 440 rc injectors, drag mainfold and downpipe. ignition retard, tial wastgate, rfl blowoff valve, safc hack. friends of ours have a chassis dyno and do all our fuel tuning so the tuning im not worried about. ill set it at what the specs say i think it was 40 across the board for the integra if i remember right. ill be looking into the tuning more. this is a winter project. the engine will be built with a block gaurd, better head gasket to lower compression and new pistons, rods, rings, valves, ect...
