Default Honda civic "performance chip"

Hello,

I have owned a 2000 Honda Civic (automatic dx-v) for the past 5 years. I have until recently just brought it to the local oil and tire places for care. I have become interested in working on the car myself, and learning more about it.

I have been looking around these forums, and all over the web for the past couple of weeks.

I came across the topic of performance chips today, and in my searches, found this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors....m245

(if the link does not work, it is " 2in1 PERFORMANCE CHIP HONDA CIVIC 1990-2008 2007 2006 " on ebay motors).

From reading the feedback, apparently this is a resistor, not a module or chip. Additionally, most of the feedback seems to have been left by people who have not yet used it.

I am curious what your experience is with these. Do they work, and more importantly, are they safe for the vehicle?

edit: also, I know that the claimed performance improvements are not to be expected- but I figure if it can safely add any improvement, it might be worth it for the price.

Thanks!

-David

bad idea. step away from the resistor. you can pick the resistors they are selling for next to nothing at radioshack. This so called "chip" will not help your car. end of story

This crap is nothing but snake oil, seriously this thing is unlikely to give you even one horsepower, at the crank. Save your money, buy something worthwhile with it. This stuff has been going on for years, everyone wants a cheap fix/upgrade, it just doesn't work that way, you need to spend real money to get real results.

Thats what I was figuring based on the wording of their ad- filling your head with information without really saying anything.

Thanks for the help!

Stay away from it. Its not healthy for your car. Hopefully someone else can explain why if you really want to know. I've read that it fools your computer into thinking the car is colder than it really is or something, making the computer send more gas, giving u a rich mixture, and fouling up ur engine on the process, under the illusion of some HP gain. . . . . . . something like that

If you want to improve your vehicle, read up on the TONS of MPG threads, or maintenance, or some mild weight removal, etc. tire preassure blah blah

If you want performance. . . its a whole different story. And an automatic DX is not part of the cast.

I like how the picture says +75hp, the first part of the listing says +50hp and later in the listing it says +60hp. I refuse to buy any product from anyone who can't decide how awesome it really is.

As awesome as that is i think i'm more impressed with the big lie technique, the bigger the lie the more people believe it.

I guess it has to do with the presumption that most people do indeed exaggerate the capabilities of their stuff by a little bit. If you tell a really big lie then people won't not believe you, they'll just scale down the lie a little bit.
