I wired up my 10" and amp yesterday and for some reason, the sub is at max volume even when the volume of the door speakers is at zero. It sounds nice once I turn the door speakers up to match the bass but is kinda annoying at lower volumes. Did I wire up the blue remote wire to the wrong one on the harness or something?

 

The remote wire just turns the amp on and off; so that wouldn't have any effect on the volume.

More info about the deck and connections would help.

 

is it running off the stock deck, off the rear speakers? if so you may be getting feedback. ie putting a mic to close to the speaker. the rear deck speakers will act as a mic and pick up the sound from the subs and feedback causing a constant bass note. its not hi pitched like normal mic feedback because its normally ran through a crossover. hope this helps

I had this problem once long ago. Mine was a tuning problem. I was trying to get too much out of the subwoofers and the mids highs could not keep up until full volume. I turned down the bass on the headunit, turned off the extra bass selection on headunit, and set the interior mid range more flat. If your amp has a bass **** then trying settings on that too. It did not allow me to turn up the volume to say 35 any more, instead it was clear until about 30. Also I had somewhat mismatched equipment.

 

Alright, thanks guys for the responses. I'm running an older Clarion dxz745mp with an MTX RT2200x, Kicker CVR 10", Phoenix Gold 4GA wiring and 6 1/2" Pioneer 3 ways.

I have like 4 different RCA connections in the back of the deck and I think I may have hooked the RCA's to the wrong input.

Basically the sub is in an "on" or "off' mode. It does not increase or decrease depending on the volume from the head unit if that makes any sense.

 

If you have 4 sets of RCAs on the back of the HU one of those sets is an input, [AUX IN] and you have the sub amp plugged into it. 94

Thats exactly what I did. Thanks for the advice, It sounds great now. That old MTX RT2200X really pushes the little 10" Kicker pretty good in a sealed box. And those 4 pioneer 6 1/2" 3-ways are pretty clean sounding for what I paid for them. Fit great in the stock location too. I'd say I'm more than happy with my little budget system. I have maybe $350-$400 total invested and for what it is, it works great. Now I have to stop being lazy and hide the wires instead of having them semi-hidden under the seats and floor mats

And like I said before, this budget setup really works well for me. you just gotta look out for the right deals at the right time and build from there. I'm obviously not an audiophile but I feel like I've got a decent soundstage going on for what I've paid. Thanks for the help, hopefully i can lend a hand to some other rookie out there that needs help.
