Default Chipped vs. Unchipped Ecu's

What are the pros and cons for chipped and unchipped ecu's

Im thinking of putting in a chipped p72 or p28 into my civic gsr swap but ive heard that you dont get that good of a mpg rating, so im wondering if anyone knows whether it is true or not?

it depends on the map on the chip

it depends on the fuel map, if you have a stock motor with bolts ons, the stock ecu is fine. If you have mods, like a new intake manifold, cams, throttle body, injectors, blah blah. Then you'll need a chipped ecu and a tune to actually gain power from just throwing those on.

Rite now i have the stock butterfly manifold but the throttle line is bent and the petal is super stiff, so ima go with a Skunk2 pro-series manifold and the rest are gonna be done in the future.

This is the p28 that im looking to get....

I can sell you that same computer with a real program on it. cheaper. you buy that computer with a skunk program... you might as well just give me your car, cuz your not gonna have it long. brand name programs are uber ****!

I sell the eeprom chip programs for 20$
ZIF socketed ecu's with IAB funtion for 140$

if anything keep reading and do some research before you buy.

Since you mentioned MPG, is that all you're looking to get from your car? or are you modifing it in any way? Nitrous or F/I?

Run the stock ecu for MPGs or spend the time and money for a chipped ecu and have some place tune it. Waste...

Don't even think of buying any of those "racing chips" from ebay. They are made to make engines go KABOOM!

try ebay for a stock computer, same as the one you burnt. will run well and same obd. cheaper too!

and the mpg is all about the tune. not always decreasing mpg. you will hear about people losing lots of gas with shitty brand name chips as they dump fuel.

The car wouldnt shift rite and ran crappy (i was told it was b/c of the p2p). Im trying to get a unchipped p28 for $100.

And thats what i read about....is there any recommended chips you'd trust...for future mods i might do?

a stock p28 is not going to run your gsr very well.
is your car a obd2 or obd1? if you were using a p2p im guessing your obd2. I have a obd2 gsr computer, but im not sure if i want to sell it.
I have a tune from my brothers obd1 gsr, all stock except i/h/e. id recommend using that, although if you plan on doing things to your car in the future i can make basmaps for you to use but a dyno or street tune is what your going to need after you do anything major in mods.
a jumper harness will be needed to run obd1.

Rite now thats it but i do need a Skunk2 intake manifold. The civic is running slugish and its not at the gsr power that it should be. But the ecu will probably take care of that.
