I have a 93 civic dx with a s40 tranny. The drivers side axle shaft keeps poping out on me. it is brand new. the old one did the same thing. What gives? is this common?
Any info would be helpful. My only thought is to take the c-clip and expand it more to keep it in the tranny.

You can try expandig the clip to keep it inplace also you need to make sure the shaft is really seated in the transmission. If it is and you continue to have it pop out I have heard of bad biff bearings causing play and making the saft pop out

 

Does it pop out as if it were too short? I don't see any possible way of the shaft popping out since it should be inside the tranny about 2" or so. Maybe you're talking about something different than I am. Not sure.

 

So here is the full story. My car quit moving one day. I dumped the clutch at about 2,000 rpm with half throttle with a slightly modified d15. Nothing special though. Popped. Thought the tranny had popped. Had an s20 tranny with 190,000miles. Bought a S40 tranny with 50,000. Had to put in a new drivers side axle shaft cause I popped the clip off the boot and could not get it to stay on. Put everything back together and drove it for half a day and then the same exact thing happened. I was going around a clover leaf on-ramp at about 40mph when it popped out. I knew the tranny was fine this time. The drivers (new) axle shaft had popped out like 2 inches out of the tranny. Does not completely come out of the tranny. It comes out just enough to disengage and cause the car not to move. So I just popped it back in and drove it home. Then the next day at a stop light let the clutch out real light and same thing. Pop, and then it didn't move. So now it has happened with two different trannys and two different shafts. That's what I don't understand. It does not seem that the shaft is too short. It fits fine, goes in just like any other axle shaft I have replaced. It feels like it goes in all the way.
Any ideas?
