I'm running a '99 B16A2 swap in a '98 HX shell...
Regular 87-octane unleaded runs MUCH better (all around) than premium - as long as you use good gas, like Chevron, Shell, Texaco, et cetera!
The only time I hear any 'knock' is when I'm doing a warm start up - for like a millisecond in between cranking and starting...
It's like knock, knock, varoom... if that makes any sense!
With premium, you get no knock when warm starting, but it takes longer to fire up a cold engine, and it's not as responsive when you're driving it.
Premium gas kinda turns a B16 motor into a torqueless wonder - a slug - but it doesn't knock on a warm start. Whatever!
Fuel economy is the same, regardless of which fuel you use...
Anyway, it's your choice, but I'll never go back to premium unleaded!

do i need to set the spark plugs gap different then? and i had another question since it needs new piston rings and im planning on going turbo later on like in a year
i was thinking if ls piston would fit making me get lower compression? and if they do fit are they direct bolt on or do i need to do some work on the block?

it says on the si cluster itself "premium unleaded only", its a high compression engine so why would you take the risk of running a lower octane fuel? its like when you have a all motor or built turbo car you cant run b.s. gas unless you want it to detonate and there goes your motor.
i know its a high compression motor that why i ask if i get the ls piston would that lower my compression and run safe on the gas plus would this setup work for turbo 2 or just leave the stock pistons?

Well what's 90 octane?
When you have half a tank of 89 and go fill up and decide to put some 91. Jajajajaja......but seriously. I tried 91 yesterday and it runs like ****. I decided to try it for the heck of it. And it does suck.

All gas in the USA is unleaded. People always have a habbit of calling 87 unleaded. It's all unleaded!
My friend's 92 Prelude SI with H23 says on the fuel door to use premium ONLY. He ran 87 when he first got it and the engine was knocking like a ****. 91-93 runs perfect on his.
On my D16Y7, I run 87. If I run 91 or 93, it doesn't run as good at all. It pisses me off when I see gas stations include those special additives ONLY to premium gasoline to encurage people to buy premium when their car does NOT need it. The oil companies do a good job of brainwashing people into thinking that 87 is HORRIBLE and premium is the way to go.
