oil on plugs

oil on plugs
just changed the head gasket put everything back together followed the steps it idled fine for about five, then i started noticing blue smoke coming out the exhaust, reved it a little and a cloud of blue smoke came out i checked the spark plugs and they were full of oil. i dont understand. it wasnt doing this before. were did i go wrong? or what do you guys think it is. i appreciate the help in advance. thnx

Sounds like the head gasket was put on backwards. I've heard you can put the gasket on backwards and it won't seal right. Other than that I don't know what else it could be.

I really hope that didn't happen! But have you ever replaced the valve cover tube seals? They're inside the VC and seal the top of the spark plug tubes so that oil doesn't get in. Might wanna check those first to see if you're missing one or sliced one upon reinstalling.
BTW, is it leaking oil into ALL the tubes? or just one?

oil on plugs as in where it fires? or above? let the engine run for a bit incase theres alot of crap in it.
Did you change your oil after you changed the headgasket?
and i dont think you can put these gaskets on backwards, little differences in bolt holes.

Oil on the upper half of the plugs means bad spark plug tube seals. They come in a gasket kit which includes valve cover washers/grommets, spark plug tube seals, and valve cover gasket. That wouldn't cause blue smoke though. If the bottom of the spark plug (spark tip portion) is drenched in oil, then your cylinders are filling up with oil which is the cause of the crazy smoke. This would indicate an improperly installed head gasket.

Yeah, pretty much. I put a headgasket in my first D15B7, i still to this day have yet to figure out what went wrong, i know the engine was heated bad enough, but it burnt way too much oil even for that, we're talking going through something like 3 litres of oil a day, in other words pretty much all of it. I've never seen anything smoke so bad in my life. I only ran it for a week and pulled in favor of another engine. But i'd still like to know why it burnt that much oil. But yeah, you overheat one of those engine and blow a headgasket and they're never the same again.
