Default Speedo Problem

Hey I was wondering sometimes when cruising the speedometer will sometime starts messing up and going everywhere within 30km in each direction or it will just stop working and go to 0km?

And sometimes when I hit the trip reset button it will work or just flicker around a bit.

Don't wear speedos that are too tight or your ***** will... ohh wait... the other speedo *blush*

I had this problem before and I did just about everything including bashing on the cluster to see if the problem would go away. The problem ended up being the Vehicle Speed Sensor located on the tranny. I replaced it and everything was like new again I'm not sure exactly what killed my speedo but I'm thinking it had maybe to do with the fact that I was leaking anti-freeze all over the sensor till it finally died.

Would be also a good idea to know what the car is next time... 92-95 civics are known for having bad clusters. mine does the same thing and i've changed speed sensor and cluster and it still does it. i turn the heat on for vents and in about 5 minutes speedo is working fine for the rest of the day ( i leave early in the mornings for work )

Its a 93 Civic Dx, and the bashing doesnt seem to always work

The heat might be something to look into:S.. cuz it usually works when the heat is on.

it could be one of three things, all of which are super simple. you could have a bad vss(variable speed sensor) which is located on the tranny in which case you pull it out with one 10mm and replace it, theres no real way to tell if its broken or not unless the gear is visably damaged i dont think.
two is a bad cluster which is also a replacement.
but what it could be adn what happend to me was a bad transmision ground just check all of your grounds in the bay and make sure there good and tight.

good luck its frustrating i know.
