bet all 16 valves? need quick help
hey guys
i bought an RSX with a bad engine. it had spun a bearing and completely crushed it. well i took the car apart and dropped the parts at the machine shop. today the machineshop calls me and tells me that when he took the head apart to clean it off all 16 valves were bent. is this guy trying to rip me off or is this possible? engine has 90k and the last owner obviously didnt car for the car very much.
thanks in advace

is this serious or are you being sarvastic?

I've personally had a motor with 12 bent valves, all 8 exhaust and 4 intake and the car still ran, I didn't even know until I had the head taken apart while rebuilding the block just like you. So yeah, I can see having all 16 valves being bent. Ask the machinist to show you the valves before you order new ones. Sometimes it is very hard to even see the damage but its there.
I think the problem is that when someone says "bent" they think of the valve being completely bent into a U shape.
A lot of times a valve can be bent ever slightly and will only get worse in time.
Same things can be said for rods. . I have seen motors with bearing problems bend a rod ever so much that an untrained eye would probably never see, but my machine shop could definitely tell. . .
Just get another set of valves and call it a day. Valves cost 2-300. Think of what it will cost if one of the current valves decides to drop on the highway. . .

Yes I was being serious. Most of the time the valves are slightly bent and will still work but they really damage the valve seats and cause a lot of leakage around them if not replaced. Breaking a cam or timing belt or a slipping cam gear(s) will cause some noticable bending but it can and does happen.
