when you get home put ice packs on your face cheeks to prevent swelling. Do like 15min on one face cheek, then remove and do 15min on the other cheek. Do this for like 1hr at a time every 2hrs. This helps the swelling and pain a lot.
Me personally I had 4 removed and it was a snap. Mine were impacted too!! After they were done (I did the IV) they gave me a dose of pain killers and a dose of antibiotics. When I got home I took 2 excedrin for a headache I had. Then I did the ice pack thing for a few hrs and I was out working on my car that night. I didn't take 1 pain killer besides the one the they gave me when they were done. I did get the vicodin, however I didn't want to take them since I wasn't in any pain. I did though take the 1 week supply of antibiotics they gave me to keep infection and dry socket down. I've heard bad and good stuff for others. Maybe its the dentist/ condition that matter or maybe its the treatment afterwards.
All I can say is that having a few cavities filled seemed worse then this. However this is coming from a guy who's the worlds youngest kid (age 5) to have a root canal down (2 day operation) from a cracked tooth (hockey accident). Also had major face surgery for being attacked (age 13, 140+ stiches to face and reconstructive surgery). Wisdom teeth, more like bordom teeth.
But really though, just do the ice pack thing and just rest for the first day. Also try to resist the vicoden as much as possible. That stuff is crazy. Its messed up a few friends from getting addicted to it.
Got tons of a these tips from a fellow dentist who's a '97 ITR owner.

had mine taken out last week monday. what a.. non-experience. i remember being gassed, then them putting an IV in me. woo it's fun trying to fight the drugs.
me-"no dock i am fine, so how you doin?"
doc-"i think i'll give you a little bit more..."
me-"so anyway, i am not sure what i am doing this summer. you got any plans?"
doc-*wiggles needle around and stares at the pouch*
me-*thinks*"haha i can fight this..." ZZzzzZZZZ
lol the drugs won. anyhow, i woke up and i was bein asked if i was okay. i was like, YEAH i'm fine, like nothing happened. i get up and i stumble everywhere and i stumble to the car. i don't remember ANYTHING. lol. Incredibly, i had NO pain at all. Just some soreness, but other than that I was good for the most part. I took 600mg of advil( 3 pills) every 4 hours or so all the way til i wen to sleep. the next day, i didn't take any pain killers. I was able to eat pasta on tuesday(got them pulled monday). On wednesday i was eating pizza!!! I virtually felt NO pain at all. It was amazing. I also had like 0 swelling. MAKE SURE YOU ICE YOUR CHEEKS for at least 4-5 hours afterwards. 15 on 5 off. something like that. EVERYTHING was going well until...
WARNING- DO NOT EAT/DRINK BOBA(MILK TEA). I REPEAT, DO NOT EAT/DRINK BOBA . A week later, everything is going fine until i drink boba. A tapioca ball probably got stuck on a stitch, of course i sucked it down my throat.. and you guessed it, ripped the stitch right out. I was bleeding mouth fulls and was giong through gauze like water through a faucet. I went to sleep for four hours that night and woke up with a mouth full of blood and not being able to breath through my mouth. SWEET stuff. oh yeah, and afterwards, i got a sweet infection. had a temp running of 104 and i felt like dying.. but yeah, these two things are exceptions. you'll be fine.
It was all good, i got my sweet titanium axle back from R&D the next day, and installed it that thursday(got them pulled monday). Haha always nice when you have something to look forward too.

I had mine pulled a couple of years ago. I was at the mall eating Chick-Fil-A nuggets the next day. I only took a couple of the pain pills they gave me for the first two days.
If you don't go to a butcher you will be just fine and in a couple of weeks you won't even know you had it done.
Just be sure to get knocked out before the extractions. Hearing bone break and flesh tear is not fun.
I think I would rather hit the lottery instead of getting my wisdom teeth pulled. But, the overall experience was not bad.

There are alot of things that could go wrong.
I've met somebody who got one of their nerves permanently damaged during the operation and has a slant on their jaw for life.. permanent drooling on that end of the lip.
Now that would really suck.

I got all 4 of mine pulled at the same time. They knocked me out with the IV. I got home at like 2. Felt a little pain, took a dose of Tylenol 3, went to bed at like 4, and got up 23 hours later, the next day. I felt great! i felt so good, I ate a Ruffles potato chip, and promptly stabed my socket with a satly potato dagger of death. Oh the pain... But other than that, I was fine.
I'm getting mine taken out next Monday. I'm scared shitless as well, oh well, anything is better than a root canal.
My wisdoms gotta come out soon too...im scared...thanks ryuken for bringing this thread to my attn
1. Listen to the instructions of your dentist/oral surgeon
2. Rest quietly for the first couple of days
3. NO smoking, spitting, or exerting yourself (especially avoid bending over and lifting stuff - this causes too much increased blood pressure in your head and can affect the healing areas negatively).
4. DRINK AS MUCH WATER AS POSSIBLE. Don't overdo it with the narcotic painkillers - they will get rid of the pain but they will also constipate you like a ****. Use 200mgx3 Advil Liqui-gels every 4-6 hours (you can take upto 800 mg (4tabs) every 4 hours safely) instead.
5. Ice packs if you have swelling - if there is no swelling - then ice will only function to cause vasoconstriction in the area and reduce the rate of healing (decreases blood flow to the area).
6. If after 10-12 hours - you still have significant pain - contact your doctor - you may have what is called "dry socket".

The pain isn't too bad, just annoying.
Expect to be hungry as hell and not be able to eat, except yougurt and soup, etc...
The bleeding won't stop for a few days, get used to sleeping with cotton swabs in your mouth.
Request lots of refills on pain killers they are fun
Your cheeks will probably swell up and bruise.
Have fun
