Powdercoating might last longer, but you'll end up paying more. Wrinkle Red high temperature is perfect considering you might get bored with red after awhile, because you could strip it off and buy another $5 can of paint afterwards.

Just painted mine black today. Looks alright but I messed up and touched it in one spot before it was completely dry.

Just be sure you take off any paint that's already on it first, use aircraft remover. Then sand it down lightly and you should be good to go.

i have done a few of these for my brother and my friends and 2 for my self.
what i do is degrease the valve cover, and remove all the gaskets and sand down the raised writing (VTEC honda ect) with 1000 grit

then use like 300 grit all over it...

And when i do it the cover isnt on the car and i plan on not using the cover for about a week or so..
tape up areas you dont want paint... on oil fill threads, spark plug outlets, ect.
then i use 500 Degree Primer. (you can get at autozone or whatever) 5 coats every 10 mins for about a hr.
then let sit for 2-3 hrs to dry
then i cook it (Yes i put it on a cookie pan and cook it on about 200 degrees for about 10 mins

then i let it sit over 2 days

Then i start putting on coats of whatever color 500 Degree paint you want.
i do about 10 light coats over about a 1.5-2 hr time period every 10-15 mins or whatever. the thing you want to keep in mind is light coats.

then after that i cook it again for 10 mins like above.
then let it sit for another 2 days

then take a razer blade not a razer knife but the blade inside of it.
and cut the top part of the letters off. then take a small peice of 1000 grit paper over the letters and finish up with polishing them.
then put new gaskets in and install remember not to over tighten the bolts or you will hear some metal drop in the head. (my bother installed his own lol)

i know this is a long *** process but it is well worth it.
and if you need to drive your car during that week
take a ride to your local junk yard and buy a civic valve cover about 10 bucks
the paint is about 12 bucks for both cans

oh and you can also add 500 degree clear coat on it and make sure to cook that too..

anyway let me know how it goes

you should get some sand paper and sand the paint back off of the lettering. it'll make it look alot neater. but thats just my opinion

I already painted mine at the beginning of the summer with some high-heat black, but it wasn't doing it for me so I just used that as a base coat then put two coats of Krylon gloss black and then two coats of clear over it. Looks pretty good except for the part I messed up.
