Default '97 CX hatch radio relocate

I was wondering how to relocate my radio from the factory location to just above my cupholders. I've seen it done to a lot of cars and would really like to do it to mine. It's an Alpine CDA-9850 head unit if that's relevant. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Remove the pocket, with minor filing of the holes in the bracket the screws go through to mount/hold the pocket in place, [CD slave unit, if your car came with one] you will be able to "ISO" mount the Alpine HU, a flat faceplate trim is needed if you want the HU to sit flush.

One question, why would you want to put your HU right behind any cups that are in the cup holder? 94

I never use my cupholders because I don't really like to eat in my car, and I just really like how the head unit looks down there. Plus it's closer to my hand so that would be safer, right? lol

I also need to know how to get my Alpine HU out of the factory location. Do I just take off the climate control bezel and then I can gain access to the HU?

I'm always all-for pictures! =] I considered doing this swap as well, for security purposes, but eh.

It really looks good man. Plus, if your HU has a motorized face it's nice to use the tilt on it.

I just need to get a block off plate now.

Where it used to be.

And where it is now.

Finally got the pics taken. Sorry they're crap, lighting was bad.

Ran in to a little problem during the install, when I mounted the stereo to the cupholders I tightened one of the screws too tight and made the stereo short out. Be sure to use a small screw.
