Hey I have a 94 eg hatch with the 8 valve d15 it has a blown head gasget. engine has 191,000 miles. Instead of having the head rebuilt i thought i would just replace the engine. what other SOHC engines are there that would drop right in and pass(california) smog.

 

D15B7 drops in no mods needed for the most part, D15Z1+D16Z6 swaps need a little wiring done for VTEC and 02 sensor etc. There are others, including JDM engines, but these would be the easiest.

so I would not have any problems with ECU or anything like that just a straight drop in with no problems for smog

Whatever engine you use you should get the corresponding ECU, or failing that chip your ECU to match.
