recall 00-073 involving a balancer shaft oil seal retainer. Check with your local dealer and make an appointment.

Man, get this taken care of. I bought a 96 Accord EX about a year ago, and that seal blew out on me 2 months later. I instantly lost most of my oil while I was on the freeway.

I had no idea about the recall. When it was being fixed (not by a dealer) I had them replace the timing belt and water pump, so it ran me ~$600. All that could have been prevented by a little clip that fits over the seal. I think the guy that did the work told me the clip was $8.

Well, thank you a lot. It hasn't been done, apparently because it was still in an impound lot witing to be auctioned to me when it was recalled. I'll just replace the engine now, too lazy to change timing belt.

Accord94DX, you might be able to help me here. I bought my car shortly after the recall happened, and I was never notified. I bought it off of a salesman at a Honda dealership. I've known the guy for years and it was his car. As far as I know he wasn't aware of the recall either, and he always had the car serviced there at the dealership.

Anyway, ever since the gasket blew out, my engine now burns oil. It's not much, but enough to **** me off. Since I was never notified about the recall, is there any action I can take? After I found out about the recall, I spoke to someone at Honda (an 800 number listed on the Honda owner's web site). She told me to fax in my receipt and I would get partially reimbursed for the repairs. I was hoping I could do better than that.

Thanks!

Im sorry but the balancer shaft oil seal recall would not apply in your case. The only way you could file a claim for reimbursement is if this seal actually backed out and drained the engine of oil. There is no headgasket recall or anything like that. If you can get a partial reimbursement, take it. You are lucky.

94-97.
Anyone which a 97 Accord check Honda Owner's Link to see if it shows up there? The only recalls I see reported are the 1995-97 ACCORD A/C WIRE RECALL (fixed) and the IGNITION SWITCH RECALL which my car wasn't included in.

It was the balancer shaft seal. Sorry, my fault in using the wrong term.
