Default Engine builders please enlighten me. Rod Question, brands, etc.

I'm doing a mild NA GSR budget rebuild. I need to replace a bent rod so I've been looking at Eagle, Scat, Tuner Toys and Probe rods. Which brand do you builders recommend?

I've searched and read they are all made in the same factory overseas, but they are machined or something here in the U.S. by the seperate brands. I've seen Eagle and Scats come with ARP 2000 bolts, not sure about the tuner toys or Probes. I've heard about Probe Industries stuff from several local domestic builders and they have nothing but good remarks. Which brand is lighter, stronger, or pretty much the best deal for the price. I don't wanna spend more than 300-325 for the rods and I'm looking to spend around 300-350 for the pistons but that's another thread in itself.

Shed some light on the myths or confirm the facts. Help me make up my mind people. Thanks

out of the rods you mentioned, i have experience w/ eagle and i can tell you i got them new and had the machinist check them over. i ended up sending them back for a refund

the big and small end bores were not true. basically the rods would have acted like they were twisted as the assembly is rotating causing a corkscrew affect in the cylinder. the machinist wasnt surprised and said eagle rods are notorious foor poor finishing. im sure they are strong and would hold up. i have some friends running eagle rods w/ good results, but i wouldnt run a set in my motor.

i have found carrillo, manley and crower to be 100% but then again you get what you pay for ya know

Yeah, I read a few more threads, some good and some bad reviews on the eagles, and scat rods.

I wish I could afford some Carillos right now. But now I'm starting to lean towards just replacing the bent rod and sticking to OEM.

Just remember that if you are going to use OE pistons, they require the rod be press-fit (OE) and not floating (aftermarket).

check into crower, they make an allmotor rod that is about the same price as eagle. i believe it is called the "econo" rod.

What do stock GSR rods weight, more or less? I've seen Probe advertises about 486 grams for their I-beams, how much do the Crower maxi-lights or Carillo A's weight?

You might want to look into K1 Technologies... K1technologies.com

They are a Carillo company, but from the looks of it are more affordable. I saw that they have Honda I-BEAM rods in the range of 454 grams. You'll probably have to call em up for applications and pricing. If there's something you like tell em Ali sent you.

Thanks,

Ali

we've been using the K1 last 2 yrs also. Theyre good but in the mid 400s as far as price range.

K1technologies is actually not a Carrillo company anymore. Carrillo was bought by Pankl/CP a few months ago. And K1technologies is still with the original Dover Corporation which owns JE and Wiseco.
