Im just curious as to what techniques people use to align there cams TDC wen installing back the timing belt. Everytime i try putting the belt on, the cams would tend to wanna move..any input would be appreciated.
I yell and scream at them. Then I threaten them that I will break out my DOHC lock tool, (part number 36880) which I found at my friendly local Carquest Auto Parts store for a reasonable $39.69 plus tax.

Where would i Place the punch? Because i dont see no holes or anything that would allow me to stick a punch in and get the cams to stay in place.

bump I would like to know as well. I am currently putting a new motor together and the only holes I see don't go all the way thru the cams. I was able to hold the cam gears with the arrow pointing up on both of them and slip the timing belt on but it seemed too easy so I'm not sure I did it right.
Bump for some advice.

There should be some small holes through the towers that will plug into similar holes on the cams themselves. The two will come into line when the cams are TDC. Pull off the valve cover and start looking, once you see them it will make perfect sense.
The cams don't like to be in exactly TDC as the valves on the intake side are just barely opening and want to snap back closed, if you're clever when you switch the timing belt, you can use the tension of the timing belt to pull the cam into the right position while you put it on.

i never used the aligning holes. i just eveyball it and work the timing belt on over the gears while using a wrench to slightly turn/agjust the cams as they move.
How the hell do they not they carry it? It's a Lisle tool, everybody has them!
Damn cheap here.
