I remember reading something a long time ago that someone removed a seal or o ring that enabled the 5th gen steering rack to function as a "true" manual rack, but I can't find any specifics on it, and since I have everything torn apart right now, I would like to knock that out if it is possible. Thanks guys.
Well, you want to make sure that the 'piston' that divides the 2 sides doesn't seal anymore. You can remove the seal or even drill holes in the piston...it's molded into number 15 here:
Then lube everything up with a good high-pressure grease very thoroughly.
I hope that's what you where talking about...

Yep, the rings that are molded into the long shaft (#15...IDK what the name for it is
) should have a seal around them that you can remove....maybe they don't on a 5th gen, bit either way you just want to make sure that those rings do not seal anymore or produce friction within the rack so it's easier to turn the wheel.

Yeah, collar is a better word for it rather than piston...the whole #15 piece is like the shaft that does all the steering, I don't know what you call it technically.

Hey guy's, so I looked at the Helm's and It says I have to puttl the steering wheel off and all this crap, and I was just wondering if there is an easier way to pull the rack out without having to go through that hassle?
