I'm looking at carland acura's website right now and looking at all the part numbers for what I'd need to replace the bearing and seals for the intermediate shaft instead of buying a brand new shaft from honda. My question is, is this an easy procedure? Should I grease the outside of the bearing at all? I dont have the haynes manual for any integras. this is for a b18 in my crx.

parts will only cost me about $50.

NOPE...but I'm planning on trying the same thing so I'd like to know as well.

 

Just talked to wes v about it and he said that it's much more of a pain to do than to just buy a used one in good shape. Unless you know for a fact that it's bad, then there is no point he says. So, buying a used shaft is what I'm gonna do.

 

It is a bit of a pain. The bearing is pressed into the carrier and it's pretty hard to get back in perfectly without a fixture.

pressing the bearing would be the hard part. also you would likely want some way to make sure it's within spec for being straight. if the bearing is off at all it will fail quickly. i wonder if a decent machine shop could align and install one?

I had the machine shop I trust install the bearing for me and he didn't like it one bit. He said it was one of the hardest projects he has done for me.

The install was fine, but the metal plate was pretty mangled. Regardless, it worked well.

 

I didnt think they would need to be presssed in because of the c-clips used on either side of the bearing. Obviously it would be a snug fit though...Thanks for the info guys. I found a guy on here who will ship me one for $50.
