Default distributor problems after motor swap

I have a 94 Accord LX. I swapped in a jdm f22b sohc vtec motor. The stock lx motor came with an external coil distributor and the new jdm motor came with an internal one. The wiring was cut down to the base on the new motor so that distributor is useless. I installed the distributor from the lx motor but i'm not getting any spark. I'm sure the ground by the intake is hooked up but i'm not near the car now so I can't check.

So what I want to know is will the external coil distributor work on the vtec motor that came with the internal one? With the f22b2 wiring harness? Do I need to jump some wires or does my problem lie elsewhere? Thanks
