Those of us that don't like LOUD Exhaust
I have been looking for a nice exhaust sound for my turbo lude. I have this generic muffler I got installed when my exhaust was being done (2 1/2) Well I wish there was a way to make a muffler to sound like a v-8 but I know thats not possible. Well I can't stand the LOUD exhaust I have. Although It doesn't sound like a ricer (TG) I just want a mellow and smooth sound. Any ideas?
apexi n1 has a deeper tone and the RS*R isnt to bad(their both loud but great tones)...the greddy exhausts are pretty quit...supposedly their all under 90 somethin dbs now so you could consider one of those
I've thought about this a bunch, (i'm back at stock muffler now), and i think that using the largest volume universal muffler you can find that will fit (like from magnaflow, i know they make a bunch of different universal mufflers) would give you good flow and stock like sound.
I don't think resonators do so much as i added two to a loud setup at one point and got no real reduction in drone.
Most of the after market mufflers are marketing a 'sporty' sound, and i don't know of any that say they'll be in the same noise range as stock with better flow. I think the answer is a larger muffler. The stock muffler is almost twice as large as the twin loop i had installed before, which was bigger than the flowmaster delta 40 (loud as f***) that the car came with.
But i haven't tried using a large generic muffler so i may be wrong.

This was my answer to the same dilemma. I wanted near-stock look and near-stock sound. Not loud unless at you're at WOT or taking your foot off the gas at high RPMs.

i have an N1 to a straight downpipe, its by far the loudest exhaust i've ever heard. 3"piping to a apexi N1 muffler.. it does have a nice tone, but it does drone

i just bought a used tanabe g power exhaust used off ebay. it is so quiet! quieter than some stock cars i've heard. i can't even hear it with the windows down a little. the only time u hear it is when you step on it. they are discontinued now but u can still find 'em around.
check some es tuning mufflers. i got one and it sounds nice and deep but isnt loud at all. they can be found on http://www.jhpusa.com

try the generic 2.5" twinloop, I got one on my turbo setup and it sounds really nice. I can take the car on drives and not wanna strangle someone. I have a 3" downpipe going into my 2.5" cat and 2.5" exhaust with resonator. I plan on adding a manual 3" cutout before the cat so theres no restriction should I need to open the exhaust up. Although theres bottlenecks in the exhaust, the car is a blast to drive. Its actually more quiet and mellow compared to before with my all-motor setup. hth.

Yeah, that is true however it wasnt that bad without it either. The exhaust system as a whole is what makes the difference (cat, resonator length, pipe diameter). Like what you said, magnaflow, vibrant or tanabe (hyper) and a high flow cat with a properly sized resonator/piping should sound quiet as hell and flow still.

How about 3'' exhausts? I was thinking about getting one when I do a fresh h22a swap in my Prelude. What's a good setup for quiet...er? Keep it under $600. (no mean to thread jack)
vibrant has been the best sounding muffler, imo, to this day.
i have ran the N1, Evo and the vibrant streetpower on the N1 piping. The latter setup sounded the best between all that i have had.
if you want to try and get a 3" quiet, contact SMSP. He can probably design resonators and a cat to keep the noise down.

Im trying to decide on one of these 2 exhausts...any tips or opinions on either one?

i agree. I've had one for about a year and it is still quiet compared to other preludes with N1 canisters. btw, my Tanabe G-power is for sale everyone!
