Default 2000 Accord Transmission change or flush

I havea 2000 Accord w/ 119k miles on it. It has never hand a tranny fluid change but I also have no slippage with it. It is an Automatic as well.

I called 2 dealers today here in MA. and one said I should change it soon, and that it would strictly be drain and refill with fluid and NOT power flush.

The other said it is a life time fluid but would have changed at 105k.

Is it factory standard for 100k?

Am I risking screwing something up by fixing something that does not appear to be broken?

Any tips? I am thinking of having it changed Monday but I was wondering if I "need" to.

Thanks.

There is no lifetime on these fuilds for this year. you should be changing it every 30k

Yes just drain and refill. for the 4cyl it will be on the pass side and on the v6 it will be on the drivers side.

think you only need the 5/8 or 3/4 wrench.....no socket needed the screw on mine is square.

Thank you so much. I had a delaer today tell me to do the Valvoline power flush to get "all" sediment out. I am against that at this stage. Will a drain and fill lossen up sediment and cause a problem?

No it wont

my boys when they get a honda they drain and fill the tranny and then after like 5000 miles they drain and fill it again (then leave it for 30k). this way its kinda like a flush. The sediments are in the tanny fuild USE honda ATF this is the only one that i would say to use. three bottles and you should be fine.

I am gong to go to a dealer Monday. $75 for a drain and refill. Should I ask him about coming back at 5k to do again?

When you say sediments are in the tranny fluid do you mean in the actual transmission and not the pan?

sediments get on the pan they dont drop the pan. the bolt is magnetic and the metal shavings from the internals should end up on the bolt.

If you want you can have the dealer do it but if you ever changed the motor oil this is just as simple and not worth for the dealer since they or anyone wont change the filter inside the tranny.

From what I was told by the dealer, on a 2000 Accord Auto tranny, there is a catch screen not a filter.

Also, I have read that losing a lot of the shavings can hurt the transmisssion since that is what is holding the viscosity as of now.

Since they are not dropping the pan I assume that I am only changing 4 quarts or so. If they did drop the pan does that take more quarts or is using the bolt the just faster than dropping the pan but exchanging the same amount of fluid.

I ask this only because of the shavings issue. How much of the shavings will I lose buy just draining and refilling?

They will only use 3 quarts on a drain an refill

The shavings you will lose are in the oil and the ones that the bolt picks up.

also with new oil the the viscosity will be higher as its newer.

There is no pan to drop. Take out the drain bolt, drain the old ATF, and put in ~2.5 qts of new ATF.

Thanks guys. I was just afraid that the shavings I am going to lose would cause damage to the tranny. I called like 5 different dealer and get 4 different answers.

Flush, drain and refill, do not flush, don't change it all as you WILL make it worse even if you have no problems now.
