I use the K&N RU-2820 filter, which can be found for under $40. I bought mine nearly 7 years ago and it's still working great. I cut up the stock paper filter and attached the K&N filter to the plastic base of the stock filter w/ a hose clamp. I also attached the paper filter's end cap onto the end of hte K&N filter, so it fits in the air box exactly like stock.
I also have some tubing below my air box in place of the stock resonator box, which draws air from behind the turn signal like Comptech's Icebox. The DIY Icebox originally put together by Bret Quimby aka BSQ.

Yes I normally run with the cover attached.

Note: K&N actual drop-in filter for Integras does not have the rubber gasket around the base of the filter to seal off the airbox, and also does not have the piece on the end supporting the end of the filter, so IMHO it's pure junk for something that costs over twice what my setup costs.

Well you just cut the paper off, and then there is a wire mesh that you can cut with wire cutters... takes a little time and be careful because there are VERY sharp edges. The part that is left is set in epoxy I think, and I just kinda pried that out with a flat blade screwdriver.

I went to a Checker Auto Parts, and i got my filter for $40. I'm not sure how extensive of a store network Checker has, but it's worth it if you go. The guy there also gave me a free "recharge" kit when it arrived.

James! I saw you on your bike today.

amazon actually has them for $39.xx shipped (realized I am not in the civic forum, that price is for a 00 EX), and I am debating getting one.
The cheapo brand I have now seems fine, although its getting gray from dust (I can still see a flashlight from behind it if that's even a valid testing method).
Should I just hold off? I am getting around 30-32 MPG with mostly City driving and that is the main reason I am debating a new filter.

how hard is it to cut the stock filter?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I got the idea from patrickgsr a few years ago and have been running it ever since. I used a flat head screw driver to pry and tear the old stock filter off. A dremel would have made everything much easier.

heh I got the idea from Bret, bsq on here.
I just checked my records - I installed this K&N filter on 7 March 2002 at 107K miles. Now the car has 270K miles and it's still in there

How did you attach the filter to the plastic base? The filter opening is the same size as the base...in other words, the filter doesn't slide over the base so I can use the hose clamp to secure it.
I did this way back in the day on my 94 GSR and I don't remember having this problem. I have an 00 GSR now btw. I guess I'll just use some good 'ol duct tape then clamp it for now.
