I'm new to this forum and did some searches on roof seals and didn't find my problem. I just got the car!

I have a 93 Del Sol S and anytime I take the roof off, it makes my hands filthy black. If the roof gets wet, it leaves nasty long black steaks on my white paint. I've tried the silicone grease they put on the S2000 from Honda and other rubber dressing. The grease just turns into a nasty black goo that ends up staining my hands. I think all the door and roof seals are just plain hosed. Can they be saved and if not, where is a good place to get new ones? Not a cheap date!

Other question: The roof also creaks while driving. Is there an easy fix or am I looking at rebuilding the locking rods and bushings??

Rubber 'dressings' have been known to leach out and cause black marks on the paint. It should wash right out of the paint though.

I have a white car, I know the pain. Some rubber products are better than others.

 

Thanks for getting back to me. I've washed the seals and left them dry and it's even worst. What do you use for dressing? I bought the car from my buddy that lived in the bay area. Maybe the salt air destroyed the seals. I guess my next option is junkyard and then choking on a $1000 for new,
