h22 bearing problems (pics)
So im having a little bit of an issue with my ngine. currently i have it torn apart for teardown because its been smoking a lot for the past few days. so found out the headgasket blew but it never overheated also some of my valve stem seals are bad so i replaced those along with my rings are looking a little bad so i replaced them. however when i have the crank out my main bearings looked like this:

what could be causing this problem? there weren't any spun bearings and the rod bearings looked like they had some metal pieces imbedded into them. non-magnetic shavings in the oil. thnk my crank might be able to be saved? i wouldreally appreciate the help

ouch that doesnt look good.
Any pics of the journals on the crank? Can you feel grooves with your fingernails?
What were the clearances like?

yea its not that nice at all...
i haven't gotten the chance to get any pictures of the crank journals but i couldn't catch my figernail on the crank journals however i could on the bearing.
could a simple crank polish cure the problem?

Don't worry about the grooves on the bearings right now. They are trash. Plain and simple.
You just have to figure out why they got that bad.
If you cant catch any of the grooves with your finger nails chances are the crank is good but I would still have a machine shop look at it , and then micro polish the journals.
I would completely break down the block, clean everything, get a new oil pump, new bearings and double check all the clearances. Maybe you were running them too tight. Maybe a cap was put on backwards. could be a few different things.

yea i know they are trashed. i found a complete set of bearings for $62 with ups 2 day shipping. is that a good deal? someone also mentioned that since my crank pulley was chipped on the outer edge which i suppose happened during installation this could've cause the crank to become out of balanced.
i never had the engine apart until now because i've only had it for a few months.
