Clutch installation help... aligning?
Ok just as explained a clutch going into a jdm d15b, I was told that the clutch and flywheel have to be aligned with a special tool, I cant find this tool for sale or rent.... Do I even have to align this, i kinda feel like this guy is blowing smoke out of his rear..
Help is well appreciated.

Its called a clutch alignment tool, sold at autozone, or your local parts warehouse. Its a plastic insert that immitates your transmissions shaft. it aligns your clutch under the pressure plate to the flywheel splines. Very important, the tool usually will run between $5 to $20. Ive never done a clutch on a honda but ive done them on domestic vehicles, im sure someone will come along and post a link to the part in an online store.

You definately need to align the clutch disc, good luck getting your tranny on otherwise. If you stuck you can make the tool pretty easily, find something that fits snugly in the pilot bearing (some 10mm deep sockets work surprisingly well) and then further back wrap masking tape around it to build it up so it just fits in the splines of the clutch disc. Use it like any other alignment tool.

i think napa and probally most other part stores sell universal kits too. you basically change the splines to what ever application you need. but like all these guys say autozone should have them, you just need to ask them

i wish there was a emoticon with a WTF? flag.
Correct me if i am wrong but this thread was about alignment tools, now im confused. Is this some sort of way of aligning clutch disks that i have never heard of before?
how do you use your tranny when your tightening the p/p? if its true it sounds like a bunch of
extra work when you could of just spent the $25 tops for a tool that makes life a little easier. and if he was installing the clutch the trans would have to come off any way, so why try and put the trans back in before you tighten everything down?

Don't you get an alignment tool when you purchase a new clutch? i know any clutch i've ever purchased came with the tool. And yes its needed. If you tighten the outer clutch pack down without the clutch disc being dead center, your gonna have a hell of a time getting the transmission input shaft to slide through the clutch disc, and into the pilot bearing.

not with all clutch kits, my dual friction clutch didn't come with an alignment tool or a pilot bearing. some times you got to buy these things separately

Yea you get one when buying a new kit, however I have a rather new clutch i was putting back into the engine and did not have the tool... At this point I am going to have to buy the whole kit cuz this blasted town I live in NEVER has special tools I need, its getting real old...
