Default New R18 engine in eg6 coupe?

Hey i was wondering if anyone out there knew anything about the new 1.8L SOHC R18 honda engine found in the new civics, a buddy of mine from school works at a dealership and has several of the blocks sitting at his shop and i was wondering if theres any after market for these engines and if its a somewhat feasable drop into my civic coupe, like say a b16, a swap that could be done in a weekend. if anyone has any useful info please let me know.

I don't really think it has been done, certainly not often anyway. It would be nice if a mount kit would come out for these and if they would go in just as easily as b series swaps, but I highly doubt that is the case. Honda tuning is going to change as b series motors start to dry up.

would you want your engine bay to look like this?

on a more serious note, i dont think there are mounts for this setup, its just not worth it.

swap in a b18 b1/c1

i dont think one of these motors would be to bad in a civic, the mounts wouldnt be that hard to do, i'd be worried about the axles and the wire harness. get one and try mocking it up. sell your work to hassport or something to sell as a kit.

I was considering this since my FG1 is wrecked and I picked up a free 93 civic DX

I was in touch with Jeremy @ RedZone and they were looking into it for me

biggest hurdle really, is that the R18 is DBW and there is no comparable motor that uses regular cable...

secondly, wiring is the other biggest issue they were looking into

axels were another issue, but something that isn't such a giant hurdle

R18 uses same motor mounts as the K20Z3... so since the Kseries hasports motor mounts for EG/EK/DC work, then so will the R18, easiest issue

other thing they were concerned about was fitment of the motor, will the catalytic converter hit the radiator/fan, etc... I though this one might not be an issue since a giant *** k-series will fit. Personally dont think this one is an issue, but again it's never been done, so who knows

What are the specs on this engine and why does it have an overheating problem?

138 hp from the R18A1.

Seems like a lot of work for that, unless there's something special abotu the R18s that I haven't heard of.

That would usually be enough motivation for me to try and take on the world right there.

It's actually not a bad motor.

I personal want to do the swap for a few reasons

A.) Never been done
B.) 1.8l vs the stock 1.5 (d15b7) is much better
C.) Still retain GREAT gas mileage, in fact may BLOW the d15 out of the water since the motor designed for an FG body is going into a MUCH lighter EJ2 body (I've heard different stories I wouldn't and I would, but so far no one is able to prove one way or the other, but my theory that I'll get better MPGs is what I'm stickin with)
D.) This motor responds VERY well to turbo, so boost it and call it a day
E.) I have the motor layin around, why not? well lots of issues to conquer on top of the big time money issue involved with this.

This would be really awesome to pull off. If you have the time and money - do it!

well my main reasons for doing this is 1. free engine 2. never been done yet........ 3. different (and im all about being different) 4. keeping with the single cam setup, only new school style. but idk it seems like the wiring issues and the overheating issues are overshadowing my opinion on whether or not this swap and the potential headaches and frustration are worth it, i mean if i really wanna **** myself off and start drinking and smoking like a sailor on leave then ill swap an LS1 in my civic cause my boss has a complete long block for $1000 and ive got a 9" rear end. so idk if its really worth it?

All the trouble of a K-swap for all the power of a single cam?

Have fun

Ohh crap they don't have spark plug wires? They seem to use those individual ignition coils that Toyota and many other newer cars use.

That engine looks like a toy for some reason. Not bad though.

i would get one since you can get them for cheap and sell it for more. then swap a b series.

but you could do it and be very original.

I've been hearing about alot of casting problems with the block of the r18.. I've seen and heard of the blocks cracking. I think you would be better of with a z6

A d17a2 swap would be a better swap since i've seen people make 350+ hp by boosting them, more aftermarket support. That and the d17 is less complicated and looks cleaner in the bay.

And it uses the coil on plugs just like the r18.

They are free engines with holes in the block due to casting issues so they are useless. That and the fact they won't have manifolds since Honda doesn't replace them under warranty.

It's ok to be different but it's another to waste time and money.

Haha. Very true.

So someone explain to me why these things have overheating issues...
