96 Tail light question
I have a 96 Honda Accord LX Sedan. I am wondering if anyone can tell me why I have the same single tail lights as the 95's and all the other 96's ive seen are 2 piece. My other question is I am looking at getting clear front bumper turn signal lights but im not sure weather to get the 94-95 versions or the 96-97 versions because my tail lights look more like the 95 versions.
Any help is appreciated.

hmmm, i am guessin either one of these 2:
1. the trunk was replaced with a 94-95 trunk (accident?, damage?. i duno)
you should check the wiring in the tail lights and see if there are andy wires jus sitting in there or tucked in not plugged in.
or 2. you have a 94-95 lol. and seeing that u say ur front bumber signals look different as well. u just might not have a 96. post a pic up

You have to replace more than just the trunk.
You either have a very badly damaged 96 Accord that someone replaced both rear quarters, the trunk, the bumper - basically the whole rear end with a 94/95.
And the front the 94/95 is a smaller lense.

thats what im sayin though I dont know what front lenses I have, heres a pic....I couldnt tell the difference between the 94-95 front bumper lights and the 96-97 bumper lights....
And it's deffinitly a 96 I verified the VIN number after I found out about the taillights.

the headlights are the same regardless of 94-95 or 96-97. The front grill, hood and bumper are different IIRC. You do have the 96-97 front grill and that though.
Do you have pictures of the back of the car, specific the tail light area?
It could be as muffin said, badly damage rear end that was replaced with 94-95 parts. Unless someone really didn't like the 96-97 style and went through the trouble of having the 94-95 style? Have you ran you VIN through carfax to see if it's been in any accidents that could have resulted in the back end being changed during repairs?

Is it possible to tell the difference of the trunk just being replaced or the whole rearend, Like are the outer taillights on the 96-97's different then the single lights of the 94-95? And as far as carfax goes I didn't want to spend the money just to find out if its been wrecked because I already bought it. I should have done it before buying but I had already sold my car and had a weekend to find something else and this was in my budget and the look I wanted. I can tell the hood has been replaced because there's numbers written with one of those pens like they use at the junk yard on the underside.

yes, the outer taillights on the 96-97 have brake lights and blinkers whereas the 94-95 has brake lights, reverse lights and blinkers.
Also, it looks like you have a 94-95 bumper by the looks of the 3pc bumper lip. Look at the diagram below...

parts 14, 16 and 20 are for the 94-95 rear bumpers.
parts 15 and 21 are for the 96-97 rear bumpers.

not if they did it them selves,
and another thing i noticed was the antenna, only 94-95's have the retractable antenna, whereas the 96-97's have the antenna built into the windsheild.
so i think muffinman is right about the whole rear being rebuilt.

definately i have a 96 with the built in antenna and 2 panel taillights on each side......any chance of pics from the side of the car and possible under the wheel wells/ in the trunk with interiors taken out(if their already taken out).....but it looks like muffin man is right if you know for sure thats a 96
the weird thing is the antenna isnt even a retractable one, its just a normal antenna but its loose as hell you can wiggle it back and fourth like it probably isnt even for this car. They did a good job though if they did replace the whole rearend cause you cant even tell.
its raining right now but ill try and pull out the carpet in the trunk and see what i can find. Thank you all for your input on this, I really appreciate it. So i guess when I get around to ordering a body kit I need to order a 95 year back bumper and the rest 96

seems like it, though I wouldn't be getting a body kit, just my person taste...

It's been discussed before... I don't recall everything but I think things are shaped a bit different and wont line up correctly.
also, isn't the trunk of the 96-97 attached/hinged differently than the 94-95?

Yeah.
If that is a 96 Accord it went under a major reconstruction, whether from accident or personal preference.
The rear quarters, the bumper, the rear reinforcement, the trunklid all have to be replaced. The outter lenses are not the same.

And yes, the 96/97 doesn't really have a hinge persay, it's just two bars that loop to the inside of the trunk. The 94/95 have a hinge system on the outside portion of the trunk area.

ill have to look at the trunk hinge but I think it has the bars. Also I lifted up the carpet on the sides and I cant find anywhere where they seamed it together. As far as the body kit goes. I'm not sure what im getting yet. But then again I'm not building my car to everyone elses liking. I'm building it to my liking.
It probably wasn't seamed together.
They probably cut out both rear quarters and welded them back in.
Refer to gianinline's thread, he does this to his driver's side quarter with a new OEM honda one.
