Default question on hpde

i've never done a hpde or track day yet so i was wondering, would you recommond a oil cooler? i mean i see a lot of you guys say just bring your car as is and just learn to drive, but are you out on the track long enough to get your car really hot? like your oil temp, water temp going really high? i mean even if you're only out for 15min, if you're driving hard your oil and water temp would go up if it's a stock car, right? so wouldn't you guys recommend at least a oil cooler just in case? just a few random thoughts.

No. Take it as-is. You are not driving hard at all (especially your first HPDE/PDX), so no worries about any of that. Bring extra brake fluid and bleed them after every session or two.Keep an eye on your pads too.

Just go and have fun. You won't set any speed records. Drive smart. You don't want to be 'that guy' getting his car towed home at the end of the event...

What he said...

If you're driving a 90 EX like your user ID seems to indicate (or just about any Honda actually), your engine should be just fine with no cooler.

okay, this was just a thought cause brakes are a given, but you never really know on fluids. and yeah, ether the ex or the gsr. probably the ex cause if i go off, can afford to lose that, not the gsr though.

The D16 in your EX will be more than up to the challenge of staying cool enough for a DE. The B series engines tend to run a bit higher oil temps but still not enough to worry about for a DE...

I've got a 90 EX under construction right now (was running a CRX)... let me know if you have any questions on car setup.

well it's mainly my autox car(HS) , but i was looking into doing some track days or hpde's over at VIR or Summit. im going to rebuild it over the winter since it's frustrating to lose to newer cars by about a sec. plus the thought of R comps keep popping in my mind(damn them if they didn't have those cheater slicks id beat them). so full suspension over haul and a engine re build. going to keep it HS for a while so just new bushings for the suspension and new gaskets and o rings for the engine(may be hot tank, if i have the money). but that's it. hopefully next year i'll be able to do a track day or hpde every month(or other, more likely) starting april.

Gotcha. Even set up as a HS car, it should be fun on the track. Good luck!
