To keep or not to keep? (garaged crx)
So my brother has a b16 crx that has been sitting in my garage for about 3-4 yrs now due to the strict emission standards california has, and recently he said that he would hand the car over to me if i decided to fix her up or give me some of the pay cut if i sold her. What would you guys do? Its a mint silver crx si, converted to a manuel transmission i believe, has a missing fender/corner light, riced out exhaust, has diff control arms, no driver side window and hasnt been registered for 3-4 yrs as well. Due to the cali emmission standards i cant mob the car with the jdm b16, so im thinking about looking for a stock usdm d16 to replace the motor but dont know where/how to find one or where to look. I would plan on getting a jdm front end conversion too, but dont know if its all worth it, even paying registration fee's again, what would you guys do in my situation, is it worth it?
Well if you have the cash and most important "The Ambition" then I say go for it, but if you dont then sell it im sure someone else would buy it for a project. Why dont you just buy an Ls vtec?, but you can look for honda engines in your local junk yard and there is tons of web sites you can look in. Good luck with your desicion!
Sounds to me like you're in over your head and don't really want the hassle of going though all that BS to drive it. Unless you're fully committed to going through everything to drive it, I'd sell it to someone else otherwise you're gonna be kicking yourself later.

It should be quite easy to find a d16 to put in it. Lots of people have done swaps and have them laying around their garage. Make sure you get the d16 w/MPFI so your fuel injection will work. You'll need the d series shift linkage as well.
As far as the missing stuff goes, you can get o.e. replacement fenders for less than $50. They're painted black, but are cheap. You should be able to get all the other stuff for less than $250.
The jdm front end conversion can be a little tricky. you'll need the bumper cover, bumper support/bracket, headlights, corner markers, and there's also a front lip the SiR had. It's not just a bolt-on application in other words. Call h motors (hmotorsonline.com) they stock them occasionally for about $900 for the whole job. but once you get it done, it's worth it!!! especially with the yellow fog lights!
The bottom line is CRX's are like a special sect of the Honda religion. the followers are normally devout in their faith. they are alot of fun and can be made very quick because of how light they are. and even though the newest one is 17 years old, they are still one of the best looking cars honda has ever designed. but what you should do about it is a question that only you can answer. sit down in the car and imagine yourself driving...you'll find out what you want to know.
