simple question regarding ignition
the steering column is locked up in a good friends crx, out of nowhere. i just pulled the LS out and replaced his trans and throwout bearing. please do not try and diagnos the problem, the ignition unit is ruined now. he tries to start, the key will not move. stays in 0. as if it were the wrong key. now to the actual question. will it be easier to replace the ignition unit i guess you would say, or the entire steering column with ignition unit. any insight would be helpful. we have the whole steering column with ignition just debating on wether or not to replace the whole thing or just the ignition unit itself.

You can replace just the cylinder for fairly cheap in the aftermarket. The only problem is, is that there is a pin that retains the cylinder into the housing. You got to turn that cylinder to the "on" position and push in to remove it with out drilling. My friend had to drill his and it didn't mess it up. You just gotta be careful bc it's aluminum and very brittle. You could also try jiggleing the key and turning the steering wheel and see if that makes it move. Or how about this. Is the key worn out?? A worn out key would make it very difficult. No diagnosis just bringing ideas to the table.
