Default Qs : Allmotor Guru, Don F, Tbone, Bisimoto, etc... please... Intake Piping Diameter for 2.2L Skunk2

Guru, please advise me about what intake piping diameter should i run for my 2.2.L Pro serries 3 camshaft, it would rev arround 9.0-9.5K....

I plan to build this intake piping, but im not sure wich diameter should i go.
Should i go with 3in, 3.5in or 4in piping diameter?????

Thanks Guru...........

thats the one thing that i dont want to waste :D

maybe every intake diameter i have to tune the motor to find the max power
i think its mean = 3 times tunning, and 3 sets of custom intake piping.. its mean $$$ and time...

thats why i need suggestion from the people that have tried 2.2L all motor engine with single plenum design, and they've try what intake piping diameter is best for their motor.
i know every motor have different characteristic, but intake diameter is related with airspeed. and the same displacement motor (2.2L) with almost same rev (9-9.5k) must have same air velocity that work best in their intake piping design

so if i follow thoose pro whom ever built 2.2L motor with 9.5K rev and doing the same thing with their intake piping diameter, its just like following Lord Jessus path to go to God Heaven rather than creating and researching a new Religion that have the posibility of failed to heaven

why not try something instead of asking for someone to hand it to you on a silver platter.

Why not delete the whole forum then, if that's the proper attitude? By using it you might learn of other people's experiences without trying it yourself first!

Why not USE the forum and try searching to see if anyone has attempted what you're trying to do. If you find nothing, you know YOU can be the first guy to try it and post all your results from testing here. If you don't have the money for this hobby you shouldn't be attempting it. If you expect to be handed all the good knowledge you require in life without trying to learn anything for yourself, you might as well call Darwin and get him to add you to his list.

I am running 4" pipe w/ v-stack on my 2.3L.

Just for the heck of it -- I threw my 4" setup on my buddies 2L b-series and made 8whp over the 3" short ram.

I think that it would be more widely accepted if an individual came to the forum and posted something like:

"i have such and such a motor, here are my mods........im looking for some help with the intake pipe length and width for optimal power....ive looked at other peoples builds and tried such and such without much luck, what have you guys done, what would you suggest."

or

"ive been looking at a few builds and it seems as though such and such length and width intake pipe is optimal for 2 liter + builds...what would you guys suggest.

at least that person tried to look for some answers......then again, im no expert i mean what do i know. To the OP no disrespect intended.

Thanks Guys

Thats what forum for, SHARE

Guys, do you know about the average optimum airspeed for intake piping design?

we all know for intake runners was around 300ft/sec in peak rpm power, and how about the intake piping?

we could calculate from that starting point

if i had to guess, the optimum air speed would be dependent on the engine and setup. Wouldn't believe there to be one set speed that everyone should shoot for.

yes, but the variation of air speed range is not wide.. in example of intake runner air speed is from 280-310ft/sec..

from knowing intake piping air speed, i think we could start to calculate the diameter of intake piping..

How hard is it to try 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0" piping and see how it works for you?

id get a couple of 45deg elbows.. in 2.5 , 3 and 3.5in and extension pipe (straight) of the same sizes..

duct tape that thing and im sure u can get a few idea's from a few dyno pulls..

but i think the dia. has lesser effect vs the length of the intake,

why not try 3inch and play with length only?

For basic testing just go to the local plumbing supplier and get some PVC pipe and bends in some different sizes very cheap and basic to assemble to get the correct size and length to suit your setup you are testing,no 2 setups are the same if you are chasing maximum power or torque at a certain RPM point. You should be able to test 5-6 different designs with-in an hr if you and your dyno operater work together with you doing the intake changes and him doing tuning changes and running the dyno.

i plan to get fixed the diameter first, before i try with the lenght.... thats why i think air speed is play important role for deciding fix diameter..
after that i plan to tune the lenght..
Thanks d15Beta, hows the sohc ?
