Default Oil Leak - Head Gasket or Warped Head?

I bought my car with a H22 in it from someone who supposedly rebuilt the head and replaced the OEM headgasket about 8,000 miles before selling. However, the previous owner didn't know what he was doing so I can't believe much.

The motor has always leaked a little bit of oil from the head gasket area, right near the front of the motor on the timing belt side.

The car still has great power, and my oil always looks good, never milky or anything from coolant. What do you think the chances are that the head is warped vs. that it's just a bad head gasket?

Have you removed the timing belt cover yet? It could be coming from one of the many seals located under that cover.

I wouldn't think it was the head gasket myself....check under the timing belt cover like Apex said and look around for other places that may be leaking. If you have a head gasket problem that pressure is usually going to do more than leak a little bit of oil. Depending on where it is you could loose power and/or oil & coolant badly and possibly overheat.

It's not the valve cover gasket is it?

I do have the timing belt covers removed, and it's definitely coming from the head gasket. I can clean that area and then watch oil leak from there as I rev the engine.

Yikes, so it's a nasty leak then...I would take the head off and have a machine shop check it for straightness.

Yeah, maybe I will. I'll have the motor out so I might as well.

No maybeeeees.......do it. Otherwise you are going to change the hg and leak may still be there and you will have to do it all over again.

remember ben stiller saying "do it" in starsky and hutch lol
